Data Scientist Tech Lead, Google Messages

Minimum qualifications:

• Master's degree in Statistics, Economics, Engineering, Mathematics, a related quantitative field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 7 years of experience with statistical data analysis and working with statistical packages (e.g., R or Python).
• 5 years of experience with data mining, querying, and managing analytical projects.
• 3 years of experience developing and managing metrics or evaluating programs/products.

Preferred qualifications:

• PhD in a quantitative field such as Statistics, Economics, Engineering, Mathematics, a related quantitative field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5 years of experience in scripting or statistical analysis (e.g., R, Stata, SPSS, SAS).
• 3 years of experience preparing and delivering technical presentations to executive leadership.
• Experience in scripting with SQL, extracting sets of data, and design of ETL flows.
• Experience in the areas of spam, abuse detection and measurement, and platform integrity.
• Ability to translate analysis results into business recommendations, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.

As a Data Scientist, you will work with product managers, engineers, and others to conduct data-forward analyses, develop metrics, design A/B experiments, build statistical models, and synthesize information and present insights to support decisions as it relates to Communications Apps products. You will provide quantitative support, market knowledge, and a perspective to partners throughout the organization.

Responsibilities

• Own the data science program for Messages Spam and drive relationships between data science and data engineering for the broader organization.
• Lead the design, analysis, and interpretation of product experiments related to Spam and business messaging.
• Provide analytical thought leadership through contributions (e.g., suggests new analyses, infrastructure or experiments to drive improvements in the business).
• Own outcomes for projects by covering problem definition, metrics development, data extraction and manipulation, visualization, creation, and implementation of analytical/statistical models, and present to stakeholders.
• Develop solutions, lead, and manage problems by framing problems, generating hypotheses, and making recommendations from a perspective that combines both, analytical and product-specific knowledge.
