Job Description: The Distribution Software Pre-Sales Engineer is a technical expert responsible for providing in-depth software solution onboarding and post-onboarding support to distribution partners. This role involves working closely with the distribution technical and selling team to develop their ability to expertly support and scale their reseller and MSP partner community. The ideal candidate will have strong technical skills across the Splunk portfolio, a deep understanding of the distribution sales process, and the ability to translate complex technical concepts into business value across multiple learner types.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Support distribution partners with pre-sales activities, including technical Q&A, product positioning, and competitive differentiation.
- Provide technical guidance to distribution partners’ selling and technical teams, assisting with opportunity advancement through use case scoping, BOM development, and upsell conversation role modeling.
- Promote distributor teams’ ability to have advanced technical conversations with their partner community, positioning them to best amplify their reseller and MSP partner ecosystem’s strength in Splunk product capabilities.
- Convey technical topics to executive, commercial, and technical teams.
- Enhance distributor teams’ ability to convey Splunk portfolio benefits, providing guidance as they promote the technologies within their partner community.
- Role model in-person and virtual Splunk technology demonstrations and Proof of Concept projects to demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of proposed solutions and advance opportunities.
- Answer complex technical questions, addressing distributor and partner concerns.
- Participate in sales meetings and strategy sessions, providing technical input to shape the overall sales approach.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Help build out distribution demo labs (virtual and physical centers).
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to think strategically and align technical solutions with business objectives.

- Ability to work and communicate effectively with cross-functional teams and different learner types.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships with distribution partners.
Business Knowledge and Experience:
- Preferred certifications: CISSP or GIAC cybersecurity certification.
- Domain experience in at least one of the following areas: Big Data, Application Performance Management, Security & Compliance, Business Intelligence & Web Analytics, Operational Intelligence, ITOA, App/Dev Lifecycle, and Internet of Things.
- A knowledgeable understanding of financial services, telecommunications, healthcare, or retail markets, and the business challenges, drivers, technology, and market challenges of these types of organizations.
- Previous experience working in or with Value Added Distributors.
- Understanding of primary sales drivers for Channel partners, i.e., Margin/MDF.
- Ability to participate in account/business planning sessions to identify new and follow-up solution, services, and education opportunities.
- Understand the Security Competitive Landscape.
- Experience with security products, especially in SIEM applications and environments.
