Senior Kafka Engineer

Required Skills:

• Ability to communicate effectively on technical topics with engineers and stakeholders

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

• Hands-on experience in infrastructure-as-code environments and automation-first principles using industry-standard tools such as Jenkins and Ansible

• Solid understanding of the software development lifecycle, including common engineering toolsets used in modern development workflows

Key Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with product owners, technical leads, and clients to define 3–5-year strategies for event-driven messaging and streaming solutions

• Contribute to and maintain architectural documentation in coordination with central architecture governance, ensuring alignment with service tiering models; previous experience in an architecture or technical lead role is a plus, but not required

• Support cost-efficient platform and product architecture decisions, in coordination with architecture teams and, when needed, with vendors or procurement; prior experience in vendor collaboration is a plus, not a requirement

• Deploy and manage Kafka clusters running on bare-metal and GKE (on-premise Kubernetes)

• Provide expert-level support and configuration for Kafka components: brokers, ZooKeeper, KRaft, Kafka Connect, Schema Registry, KSQL, REST Proxy, and Control Center

• Oversee Kafka Connect operations in high-volume environments using Schema Registry, including access control, Kerberos and SSL configurations, topic management, and general platform administration

• Design and implement custom connectors using Kafka APIs and core concepts; participate in design reviews and capacity planning to ensure optimal performance, high availability, and platform stability

• Develop and implement observability solutions aligned with the company's SRE and monitoring strategies, including data benchmarking, performance analysis, and system tuning
