Senior Transformation PMO Lead

We are looking for an experienced Senior PMO Lead to join a major transformation environment and play a key role in strengthening governance, improving project management standards, and enhancing delivery discipline across a complex programme landscape.
This is not a traditional PMO administration role. It is an opportunity for someone who combines strong PMO expertise with practical project delivery judgement and the confidence to work closely with Project Managers, challenge weak practices, and improve the overall quality of governance and control.
You will join a programme environment with multiple workstreams, interdependencies, stakeholders, and delivery pressures.
THE ROLE
As Senior PMO Lead, you will help improve how delivery is governed and supported across the programme. You will bring a stronger level of PMO leadership, practical judgement, and consistency. This role requires someone who can recognise when delivery governance is weak, identify where standards are being applied incorrectly or inconsistently, and take constructive action to improve the situation. You will not only coordinate activity, but actively contribute to raising governance quality, strengthening control, and improving the effectiveness of PMO support across the wider programme.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Drive the consistent adoption of agreed project and programme management standards, governance controls, templates, and ways of working
Ensure governance artefacts and controls are used correctly, consistently, and for the right purpose
Identify areas where standards are being applied inconsistently or incorrectly across projects and workstreams
Intervene constructively where weak governance practices are creating delivery risk, confusion, or a lack of control
Strengthen discipline across core delivery controls, including the management of risks, issues, actions, decisions, and dependencies
Provide strong, hands-on PMO leadership and practical support across the programme
Work closely with Project Managers to support the day-to-day application of governance and delivery controls
Bring greater structure, follow-through, and sound judgment into PMO activity
Help determine sensible next steps when delivery or governance issues arise
Review governance outputs, artefacts, and controls to identify weaknesses, control gaps, or poor practice
Challenge ineffective or incorrect use of governance tools and processes
Support Project Managers and stakeholders in improving governance quality and consistency
Escalate material governance or delivery concerns where necessary
Identify recurring issues, inefficiencies, and weaknesses in ways of working
Recommend pragmatic improvements to governance practices, PMO support, and overall delivery effectiveness
Support the implementation of agreed improvements across the programme environment
Contribute to building a more mature, reliable, and effective PMO capability over time
REQUIREMENTS
Proven experience in a Senior PMO Lead, Programme PMO, or similar senior PMO role
Strong understanding of project and programme governance
Practical knowledge of project delivery and delivery controls, not just PMO administration
Experience working closely with Project Managers in a way that supports and improves delivery discipline
Ability to distinguish clearly between risks, issues, actions, decisions, and dependencies, and ensure they are managed through the correct controls
Experience in identifying governance weaknesses and implementing practical improvements in a project or programme environment
Ability to operate effectively in a complex environment with multiple workstreams, dependencies, and stakeholders
Strong ownership mindset and ability to determine sensible next steps without heavy supervision
Experience working within large transformation programmes
