Senior Backend Engineer – Payments, Java, AWS, Real-time APIs

Duration: 4 months initial contract

Location; Hybrid setup from Stockholm. (Consultant must be based in Stockholm)

Overview:

Join a dynamic team in Stockholm to contribute to a cutting-edge, large-scale project focused on backend engineering in the payment domain. You’ll work on the development and optimization of real-time APIs, architectural design, and deploying solutions in a cloud-native environment. An immediate start is important to meet project goals.

Your Day-to-Day:

1. Design, develop, and implement backend services in modern Java with a focus on creating high performance, high-scalability APIs.
2. Modify existing APIs to optimize efficiency and meet evolving business requirements.
3. Collaborate with a global team of employees and consultants within agile workstreams to deliver project milestones.
4. Deploy and manage applications using AWS with services like ECS, S3, and Lambda, leveraging cloud-native architecture principles.
5. Integrate Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices into workflows, preferably with tools like Terraform.
6. Troubleshoot and proactively identify technical challenges while delivering robust, reliable systems.

To succeed in this role, we're seeking someone with:

Core Backend Skills:
• Proven experience as a backend engineer, with proficiency in modern Java development best practices.
• A strong understanding of API design, particularly for high-volume real-time systems.
• Experience improving performance and optimizing latency in large-scale systems.

AWS & Cloud Proficiency:
• In-depth experience with AWS services, particularly ECS, S3, Lambda, and cloud-native architectures.
• Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools, such as Terraform.

Collaboration & Leadership:
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in teams and contribute to agile development processes.
• Excellent communication skills, paired with a proactive approach to problem-solving.

Bonus Points for:
• Hands-on experience in the card payment domain, including PCI compliance, tokenization, and working with industry standards for card payment platforms.
• Knowledge of scaling and securing real-time API systems in a highly regulated environment.
