Lead AWS Engineer ( Global Edge Infrastructure Specialist)

emagine is looking for a Lead AWS engineer specialized in Global Edge infrastructure to strengthen and evolve our clients public-facing platform serving millions of users worldwide.

Start: ASAP or within 1 month

Duration: 6 months but extension possible

Location: Stockholm, 2-3 days onsite required

About the assignment

This role requires deep hands-on expertise in designing, operating, and securing large-scale internet-facing infrastructure on AWS, where performance, resilience, and cyber security are business-critical.

The consultant will play a key role in standardizing and scaling edge architecture, ensuring high availability during extreme traffic peaks, and protecting services from security threats at global scale.

This is not a general backend or observability role. The focus is production-grade Global Edge delivery and protection of high-traffic web platforms.

Core Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and operate global edge architecture using AWS services

• Own and optimize CloudFront distributions for high-traffic, latency-sensitive web applications

• Design and manage AWS WAF security controls, including rule development, tuning, and threat mitigation

• Build and maintain infrastructure using AWS Cloud Development Kit (CDK) in TypeScript

• Improve platform resilience, scalability, and performance across global regions

• Implement protections against large-scale attacks (e.g. DDoS, traffic spikes, abusive patterns)

• Analyze traffic behavior and continuously optimize caching, routing, and security policies

• Contribute to standardization and automation of global public infrastructure

• Collaborate closely with engineering teams to support secure and performant delivery of web applications

Required Expertise (Must Have)

Global Edge Infrastructure (Deep Hands-On)

• Proven ownership of large-scale public web infrastructure running globally

• Experience operating platforms with very high traffic volumes and strict uptime requirements

• Demonstrated work with performance optimization, resilience engineering, and traffic surge handling

• Real production experience managing security events at the edge

AWS Edge Services

• Expert-level experience with CloudFront in production environments

  • Distribution design and optimization

  • Caching strategies and origin architecture

  • Performance tuning and troubleshooting

• Expert-level experience with AWS WAF

  • Rule design and lifecycle management

  • Threat detection and mitigation

  • Security hardening for internet-facing services

Infrastructure as Code & Engineering

• Strong hands-on experience with AWS CDK

• TypeScript as primary engineering language

• Ability to design and maintain infrastructure programmatically at scale

Production Ownership

• Experience running mission-critical services where edge infrastructure directly impacts business outcomes

• Experience supporting major traffic events (e.g. campaigns, peak seasons, global launches)

• Strong operational mindset with incident handling and continuous improvement

Highly Valuable Experience

• Operating high-volume commercial or consumer-facing web platforms

• Edge performance engineering and latency optimization

• Advanced caching strategies and origin shielding

• Security engineering at CDN / edge layer

• Automation and standardization of public infrastructure at scale
