We're looking for a Senior Data Engineer to join a small, senior team focused on building high-scale ingestion, storage, and query systems. You'll work with modern data lake technologies to design a platform that processes terabytes of data daily, with a strong emphasis on streaming, efficiency, and speed. This is a deeply technical, customer-facing role with strong ownership. You’ll often work directly with clients, understanding and resolving data-related issues, designing solutions, defining system architecture, improving performance, and shaping the long-term technical roadmap

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in backend or data engineering roles

• Deep experience with one or more modern open-source data technologies to build a data lake on top of: Apache Iceberg, Trino / Presto, or  ClickHouse

• Proficient in backend programming languages: Java, Go, Python

• Familiarity with tools like Apache Kafka, Apache Flink

• Hands-on with modern data lake and query technologies (e.g. table formats, columnar databases, or query engines)

• Comfortable working with large-scale datasets (terabytes/day or billions of rows)

• Familiarity with cloud-native systems: object storage, autoscaling, containers

Nice to have

• Contributions to open-source projects related to big data, query engines, or security tooling

• Background in building or scaling event/log/metric data platforms

• Familiarity with security analytics, observability, or threat detection systems

Responsibilities

• Design and build scalable backend systems for real-time and batch data analytics

• Re-architect and optimize ingestion and query pipelines, including table design and indexing strategies

• Work with massive datasets (terabytes/day) and ensure high performance at scale

• Participate in technical architecture discussions with the engineering and product teams

• Act as a technical contact for customer-facing issues and use cases

• Support production systems as part of a shared on-call rotation (every few weeks)

• Debug, resolve, and prevent issues in complex, distributed data environments
