- Strong knowledge of email systems and protocols such as SMTP, SPF, DKIM, DMARC, as well as DNS and mail routing
- 4+ years working in backend development, infrastructure engineering, or building system-level software
- Skilled in backend programming languages like Node.js, Go, Python, etc., with experience building on container-based or cloud-native platforms (like Docker, AWS, Kubernetes)
- Hands-on experience growing and managing email infrastructure like Mailgun, Postmark, etc. — whether through third-party providers or custom-built setups
- Familiar with managing background task systems and message queues (e.g. Kafka, Redis Queue, or RabbitMQ) along with handling concurrency and throttling
- Comfortable using tools for tracking logs, system health, and performance alerts (such as Prometheus, Sentry, Grafana, or Datadog)

- Solid grasp of how to design and scale systems that handle large amounts of data across multiple components or services
- Design and support the backend systems that drive outbound messaging infrastructure
- Build scalable logic to handle high-volume email events, including intelligent queuing and sending limits
- Create systems for managing multiple domains, IPs, and sender identities across campaigns
- Automate key processes like warm-ups, rotation strategies, reputation monitoring, and failover response
- Work closely with the deliverability team to create tools for tracking domain/IP health, handling errors, and avoiding blacklists
- Develop real-time tools and dashboards to keep tabs on system status, performance, and alerts
- Ensure that the outbound systems are stable, follow industry standards, and meet compliance requirements
- Continuously explore ways to boost sending volume while keeping sender reputation strong and consistent
