Founding Engineer (AI + Platform) - ContractSpot

At ContractSpot, our mission is to tame the chaos of public procurement.

We’re turning bidding from a messy, high-risk process into an efficient, auditable, AI-assisted workflow - opening a €2T market to every company that should be able to compete.

We’re looking for a Founding Engineer to help build the core product: an AI-native procurement platform that becomes the system of record for tender work - for contractors today, and increasingly for contracting authorities tomorrow.

What you will do

• Build the end-to-end procurement platform that becomes the workspace and data backbone for our customers: company profiles, documents, past bids, evidence, workflows, permissions, audit trails, integrations - everything needed to run procurement in one place.

• Own the full tender lifecycle on our product - from notice ingestion/creation, through market & document data collection, to structured datasets and AI-driven execution (classification, extraction, eligibility checks, drafting, risk detection).

• Develop the core intelligence of our AI engine, pushing what it can understand and automate in real procurement workflows (not demos): reliability, evaluation, guardrails, latency/cost, and continuous improvement loops.

• Design collaborative workflows that help teams track opportunities, assign tasks, coordinate bid work, and reuse institutional knowledge - powered by historical tender/bid understanding (what worked, what failed, what’s missing, what’s risky).

• Build towards the future state: a platform where contracting authorities create and manage tenders directly - enabling a cleaner market, better data, and faster, more transparent procurement.

• Long-term: become a technical leader at ContractSpot - owning core systems, setting engineering standards, and helping build the team.

What we’re looking for

• You’ve shipped production-grade systems end-to-end (backend + data + product thinking), and you care deeply about quality, performance, and maintainability.

• Strong judgment in AI/ML + software engineering: you can make LLM systems reliable (data pipelines, retrieval, evals, monitoring, fallbacks), not just “it works on my machine.”

• High agency: you can take an ambiguous problem, turn it into a plan, execute, and iterate quickly.

• Relentless ownership: you don’t stop at “model output” - you deliver a feature customers trust in real workflows.

Nice to have: experience with B2B SaaS, workflow products, compliance/audit requirements, document-heavy domains (legal, finance, procurement), multi-tenant architecture, or security.
