Senior Consultant - IBM iSeries / AS400

We are looking for a Senior Consultant - IBM iSeries / AS400 to provide remote production support for one of our international customers in the manufacturing and distribution sector.

The role focuses on operational support, incident resolution, troubleshooting, system analysis, small changes, documentation and continuous improvement of the IBM iSeries / AS400 environment.

Job description:

As a Senior Consultant - IBM iSeries / AS400, you will ensure stable operation of business-critical systems running on IBM iSeries. You will diagnose incidents, analyze job logs and system messages, support batch processing, coordinate issue resolution with business and technical teams, and participate in change and improvement activities.

This role is ideal for a senior engineer or consultant who combines strong IBM iSeries operational knowledge with good communication, ownership and customer-facing experience.

At cloudatus, you will: 

• Provide responsive and reliable production support for IBM iSeries / AS400 systems.

• Diagnose and resolve incidents related to applications, jobs, batch processing, integrations and system operations.

• Analyze job logs, system messages, spool files, output queues and application errors.

• Support business users and technical stakeholders during end-to-end issue resolution.

• Manage support tickets, prioritize tasks and implement short-term mitigations and long-term fixes.

• Support regular operational activities, including monitoring, data archiving, security reviews and audit support.

• Execute and document approved changes in the IBM iSeries environment.

• Support RPG / RPGLE / ILE RPG and CL / CLLE analysis where required.

• Work with Db2 for i and SQL for troubleshooting, data analysis and reporting support.

• Support file exchange and integration processes using IFS, SFTP/FTP and file-based mechanisms.

• Document technical findings, operational procedures and recurring issue patterns.

• Contribute to continuous improvement of support processes, monitoring and knowledge base.

• Cooperate with cloudatus engineers, customer application owners and business users.

Required technical and professional expertise: 

• Strong hands-on experience with IBM i / AS400 / iSeries environments.

• Experience in application support or system operations within enterprise environments.

• Good understanding of IBM i operational concepts: libraries, objects, subsystems, jobs, job queues, output queues and spool files.

• Ability to analyze job logs, system messages and application errors.

• Practical knowledge of CL / CLLE.

• Ability to read and understand RPG / RPGLE / ILE RPG code for troubleshooting purposes.

• Good knowledge of Db2 for i and SQL.

• Experience with 5250 terminal sessions and IBM i system commands.

• Experience with IFS and file exchange mechanisms such as SFTP/FTP/CSV.

• Understanding of IBM i security basics: user profiles, object authorities, authorization lists.

• English at minimum B2 level.

Nice to have:

• Experience with IBM i Access Client Solutions.

• Experience with backup/restore activities, BRMS, journaling or HA/DR concepts.

• Knowledge of RDi, Code for IBM i or modern IBM i tools.

• Experience with ODBC/JDBC, EDI, IBM MQ, REST/SOAP APIs or middleware integrations.

• Experience with system upgrades, data archiving, audit support or security reviews.

• Experience in manufacturing, logistics, ERP or SAP-integrated environments.

• German language skills.
