Senior Python Engineer

Ciklum is looking for a Senior Python Engineer to join our team full-time in Poland.

About the role:

As a Senior Python Engineer, become a part of a cross-functional development team engineering experiences of tomorrow. We are looking for a pragmatic Senior Python Engineer who sits at the intersection of Data Engineering and Generative AI. You will be responsible for building the core transformation logic of a "Human-in-the-Loop" application that ingests messy logistics rate cards (Excel/PDF) and normalises them into a standard schema. You will work within the constraints of the client's internal GenAI platform (FabriX), writing robust Python code that the AI Agent executes to perform deterministic data extraction (e.g., table parsing) while leveraging LLMs for semantic understanding (e.g., fuzzy header mapping).

Responsibilities:

• Core Transformation Logic: Write production-grade Python scripts (using pandas, openpyxl, re) to parse, clean, and transform complex Excel and PDF rate cards

• AI Agent Configuration: Design and implement the "System Prompts" and function calls for the FabriX AI Agent, defining when to use deterministic code (math/logic) vs. probabilistic AI (semantic extraction)

• Data Engineering: Handle real-world data issues: merged cells, multi-header rows, variable date formats, and nested tables in .xlsb or PDF files

• Platform Integration: optimize code for a stateless, synchronous execution environment (FabriX Code Interpreter), managing memory usage and execution time (3-minute timeout limits)

• Validation & Quality: Implement automated validation rules (e.g., schema checks, confidence scoring) to flag "Low Confidence" data for human review

• Collaboration: Work closely with the Frontend Engineer (React) to define the API contract and data payload structure for the UI

Requirements:

• Python Mastery: 5+ years of deep experience with Python for data manipulation, specifically pandas (advanced indexing, vectorization), numpy, and openpyxl

• Unstructured Data: Proven track record of extracting structured data from messy sources (e.g., PDFs with pdfplumber, Excel with merged headers, scanned documents)

• LLM Integration: Experience working with LLM APIs (OpenAI, Azure OpenAI, or similar) and understanding concepts like Prompt Engineering, Context Windows, and Temperature

• Code Interpreter / Sandbox Experience: Familiarity with writing code that runs in isolated/sandboxed environments (e.g., AWS Lambda, Jupyter Kernels, or OpenAI Code Interpreter)

• Regular Expressions: Strong command of Regex for pattern matching (extracting weights, zones, or surcharges from text)

Desirable: 

• Logistics Domain Knowledge: Understanding of freight concepts (e.g., "Volumetric Weight", "Zone Matrices", "Fuel Surcharges")

• Format Expertise: Experience with binary Excel files (.xlsb) or legacy .xls
