Job description

About our Team:

The Data Platform and Enablement Team, part of Group IT: Data & AI, is responsible for the central, group-wide Data Platform based on Databricks and the solutions built on top of it.

We design, run, and continuously enhance platform capabilities tailored to Helvetia using our internal framework. Our work focuses on building a scalable, reliable foundation that enables data-driven decision-making across the organization.

Using Python and core Databricks functionalities, we combine platform engineering with a strong enablement mindset - providing tools, standards and best practices for teams working with data.

Role Purpose:

We are looking for an experienced Data Engineer to take ownership of developing and enhancing our Databricks-based platform framework.

In this role, you will work with a Medallion architecture, using Python and SQL to build and optimize data solutions that support a scalable and efficient data ecosystem.

You will also contribute to the continuous growth of our data platform, with opportunities to expand your technical skills, deepen your knowledge of the insurance domain, and explore new areas within a dynamic data environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and enhance assigned platform capabilities on Databricks, taking true end-to-end ownership
  • Proactively ensure that platform services deliver reliable, high-quality business value
  • Actively contribute to the Data & AI Community of Practice, sharing knowledge and best practices
  • Enable and support internal teams in effectively using the platform framework and its capabilities

Your Skills:

  • At least 3 years of hands-on experience with Apache Spark, preferably on Databricks
(Databricks Associate certification is a plus)
  • Strong proficiency in Python (data processing and application development)
  • Solid experience with SQL and relational databases (preferably PostgreSQL)
  • Experience with Azure DevOps and modern development practices
  • Strong analytical mindset with the ability to take end-to-end ownership of services
  • Very good English communication skills; German is a plus

Ideally, you will also have:

  • Insurance industry knowledge
  • Azure Cloud knowledge, Terraform, Biceps
  • Airflow
  • Visual Studio Code
  • Experience with web services and XML structures (also JSON, REST/SOAP).
  • Pyspark, R and/or Scala programming
  • AI Agent programming on Databricks
  • Experience with python seaborn, streamlit, plotly
  • Familiarity with version control (Git / Subversion), Jira, Confluence.
  • Background in agile / Scrum software development, reviews and test strategies.

You will thrive here if you:

  • Are reliable, accountable, and proactive - you don’t just design solutions, you make sure they actually work in practice
  • Feel comfortable acting as a bridge between business and IT, translating technical topics into clear and understandable language
  • Are solution-oriented, analytical and curious, with a strong sense of empathy for stakeholders and users
  • Enjoy taking real ownership and responsibility in an agile and evolving environment

What you can expect from us:

We want to provide you with everything you need to succeed. To do that, we offer a bunch of benefits (depending on the type of contract chosen).

  • Paid time off: Enjoy 30 paid days off per year.

  • Flexible benefits budget: Additional budget that can be used for both personal or professional development.

  • Comprehensive medical coverage: Full private healthcare for you and your family, including rehabilitation, psychotherapy, and dental services.

  • Home office allowance: Support for a comfortable and productive remote work setup.

  • Work from anywhere in Poland: Freedom to work remotely with the option to access our modern office in central Warsaw. You could expect occasional travels to Switzerland.

Recruitment Process Overview:

  1. 45min video call with our recruiter.

  2. 1h Technical Video Call.

  3. 1h video call with Project Lead.

Join us in shaping the future of insurance at Helvetia Baloise Group where in a dynamic, global team setting, you’ll have the freedom to bring your ideas to life and work alongside experts to solve demanding technical challenges.
