Aptvision is looking for a Junior IT System Administrator to help us bring our platform to the next level. From a Junior IT System Administrator we require basic technical knowledge, can-do attitude and ability to learn being guided in the right direction.
In our team you will
- Provide support for the DevOps Team in managing the entire Aptvision infrastructure across multiple platforms for different enterprise customers, each with their own onprem multi-hypervisor VMware stack
- Assist in maintaining, monitoring and planning the infrastructure for the future and put that plan into action, piece by piece
- Care deeply about security
- Love aiming for and reaching ambitious uptime and availability metrics (best in our industry) by building HA and fault tolerance into infrastructure designs
- Use Ansible, Docker, Kubernetes, and other leading-edge techs
- Enjoy continuously learning from and teaching other experts in their field on the team
Responsibilities
- Assist in maintaining and monitoring infrastructure to ensure scalability, performance, and security for enterprise customers.
- Support in planning and implementing infrastructure projects under the guidance of senior team members, including rolling out Kubernetes, implementing TLS, and data encryption.
- Help in selecting and setting up technology stacks as directed by senior staff
- Participate in coaching and knowledge-sharing sessions to build skills and understanding of IT systems and processes.
- Contribute to the use of automation tools such as Ansible, FluxCD and Helm. Assist in automating tasks and processes as guided.
- Gathering and refining specifications and requirements based on technical needs
- Creating and maintaining infrastructure documentation
- Staying plugged into emerging technologies/industry trends and applying them day-to-day
Required Skills/Experience
- Good English and communication skills (both written and verbal) are a must
- Basic experience with a unix command line is required
- A solid understanding of containerization is plus, past experience administering a Docker or Kubernetes cluster is nice to have
- A solid understanding of how modern web applications work including security, networking, DNS, encryption, session management, best development practices, standard tooling, etc
- Adequate knowledge of relational database systems, web application development, automated system provisioning tools
- Ability to assist in problem diagnosis and resolution, with a willingness to learn and apply creative solutions.
- Strong organisational skills to juggle multiple tasks within the constraints of timelines and budgets with business acumen
- Ability to work and thrive in a fast-paced environment, learn rapidly and master diverse web technologies and techniques
- Proven working experience in VM administration, in particular Ubuntu (RedHat also valued). Experience with virtualization solutions such as VMware or Openstack not required but valued
