Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced HL7 Integration Specialist to design, implement, and maintain integrations within healthcare systems using HL7 standards. This position requires strong technical skills, a solid understanding of healthcare workflows, and excellent stakeholder communication.
Key Responsibilities
Design and develop HL7 interfaces using integration engines (e.g., Mirth Connect, Cloverleaf, Rhapsody)
Maintain existing integrations
Create and maintain documentation for interfaces and test cases
Lead integration projects from initiation through completion
Collaborate with cross-functional teams and clients to ensure delivery aligns with requirements
Work closely with clients, vendors, and clinical services to gather requirements and ensure successful implementation
Communicate integration progress and challenges clearly and effectively
Analyze clinical workflows and existing systems (e.g.,,RIS, PACS, HIS, PAS, EHR)
Understand and work with HL7 message types, including ADT, ORM, ORU, DFT
Maintain compliance with healthcare data exchange protocols
Conduct unit, integration, and system testing
Troubleshoot and resolve defects, monitor interfaces, and support system go-lives
Requirements
2+ years of hands-on experience with HL7 integration
4+ years working with clinical information systems
Strong understanding of HL7 v2.3–2.9 (v3/FHIR is a plus)
Experience with at least one integration engine (e.g., Mirth, Cloverleaf, Rhapsody, IBM Integration Bus)
Working knowledge of SQL, basic PHP, and JavaScript
Familiarity with healthcare systems and clinical workflows
Knowledge of radiology workflows and integration points
Strong communication and analytical skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a distributed team
Proven experience collaborating with clients and stakeholders
