The team
We are looking for a Software Developer to work on our Platform team, building the very platform that our entire organization runs on. Working closely with internal customers to ensure Apptio’s software is operating at the highest standard, we design and deliver a variety of exciting and challenging services that are central to the Apptio portfolio. For example, our work includes interactive modeling, business intelligence, and creating an extensible applications framework. We own the full development lifecycle of key Apptio services, including authorization/authentication, product provisioning, and the framework with which all Apptio products integrate.
We are 6 engineers across 3 locations, regularly working across both backend and frontend stacks.
To fit into this team, you should thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative, cross-functional, agile environment. You should also have a DevOps mindset in order to own the full development lifecycle from design to deployment.

The job:
- Partner with product management to define desired capabilities.

Design and deliver those capabilities on time.

Introduce procedures, tools, and practices to optimize team productivity.

Analyze problems from internal and external customers, debug and provide fixes.
- Contribute to continuous delivery and test automation.
The things you need to know:
- Expert knowledge of programming principles.
- Experience with Object-oriented software development.
- Familiarity with Microservices architecture.
- Knowledge of Java and JavaScript.
- Knowledge of relational databases, schema design, SQL.
- Large-scale, data-driven web development experience, preferably SaaS.
- Experience with SPA technologies and React framework.
- Collaborative work style; effective communication; cross-functional teamwork.
- Able to work with product management, field staff, and customers to clarify requirements.
- Experience delivering commercial software; familiarity with common roles and responsibilities, product and release life cycle, source code and change management, etc.
The things we’d like you to know but are happy to teach you:
- Experience working with complex data models and business rules.
- Experience with AWS services (RDS, SQS, SNS, Lambdas).
- Understanding of agile development processes.
- Experience with Kubernetes
- Experience with document-based databases (MongoDB, DynamoDB, etc.).
- Design of commercial PaaS or internal platform/application architectures and APIs.
- Experience with content management.
