Job description

About the role: 

Our client is one of the largest game studios known for its very successful online MOBA and FPS franchises. You will be part of a Player Platform team responsible for the backend Java services operating in the Korean region. Player Platform owns critical services and provides core functionality to support the online capabilities of the games developed by our client.


You will help develop new features, maintain and migrate services to the latest Java 21 and SpringBoot stack. You will participate in multiple modernization efforts related to infrastructure, deployment pipelines, and observability tools.


You will work closely with engineering teams based in Korea. For this role, fluency in Korean language , both written and spoken, and willingness to overlap with Korean time-zone would be required to succeed. 


Responsibilities:

  • Design, code, test, deploy Java applications based on SpringBoot ver. 3

  • Prepare design docs, implementation strategy and choose appropriate libraries

  • Collaborate within your pod (up to 6 engineers) and with other cross-functional teams

  • Create and manage well documented RESTful APIs in SpringBoot

  • Write and execute unit, integration end-to-end and load tests, participate in code reviews

  • Maintain a build automation toolkit in Maven and Gradle

  • Create, modify and maintain CI/CD pipelines with Docker and Github Actions

  • Design and modify database schemas, write MySQL queries, and manage data integrity

  • Deploy and modify infrastructure for the project using Terraform and internal tools

  • Stay updated with Java advancements and industry trends


Required qualifications: 

  • Good knowledge of Korean language, both written and spoken

  • Willingness to substantially overlap with Korean time-zone (GMT+9)

  • Minimum of 3 years commercial work experience 

  • Bachelor's or higher degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field

  • Strong command of Java programming language and related frameworks (SpringBoot, etc.)

  • Familiarity with object-oriented programming (OOP) concepts and design patterns

  • Experience with version control tools (e.g., Git) and build tools (e.g., Mava, Gradle)

  • Ability to create, enhance, and maintain server-side applications

  • Proficiency in building RESTful APIs and handling data formats like JSON/XML

  • Experience working with relational databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL) and writing efficient SQL queries

  • Aptitude for debugging, analyzing issues, and implementing effective solutions

  • Familiarity with testing frameworks (e.g., JUnit) and agile methodologies

  • Effective communication and teamwork skills


Nice to have: 

  • Experience with IaC solutions like Terraform

  • Experience with CI/CD - Docker, Jenkins, Github Actions

  • Hands-on experience working with Public Cloud, preferably AWS

  • Experience with observability and monitoring tools, preferably Datadog
