The Reliability Risk Management team protects critical systems by identifying, analyzing, and communicating risks effectively across audiences. This role involves collaborating with Akamai's engineering teams to protect the operational platform architecture of key products. Expertise will be applied to enhance the risk management program following industry standards. You will contribute to developing a reliable experience for globally distributed systems while sharing knowledge and fostering growth within the organization.

As a Risk Management Architect, you will be responsible for:

• Characterizing individual risks comprehensively, utilizing research to assign scores based on probability and severity assessments.

• Proposing success criteria and developing solutions to remediate, mitigate, or eliminate risks to ensure system reliability

• Providing deep analysis of technical material, including architecture documents and specifications.

• Synthesizing and extracting relevant information from technical documentation, including but not limited to architectural designs and specifications

• Communicating findings in clear and precise written documents, data visualizations, and presentations

• Validating risk mitigation solutions to ensure work has appropriately met success criteria and sufficiently mitigates identified risks

• Maintaining and updating the technical risk register, analyzing risks, and collaborating with engineering teams for information.

• Researching Akamai and industry practices, updating risk governance standards to ensure effective risk management program maintenance.

To be successful in this role, you will:

• Bring 8+ industry experience and a relevant educational background.

• Possess experience in a role with operational responsibility for business-critical production systems

• Communicate effectively through writing documentation, presenting ideas, and sharing thoughts clearly in meetings and discussions.

• Show expertise in networking, Internet protocols like TCP, UDP, DNS, TLS/SSL, HTTP, Linux OS, Jira, Confluence.

• Possess working experience with the implementation and/or operation of distributed systems and/or cloud computing

• Be eager to know how and why things work, and how to improve them

• Apply systems thinking, identifying critical factors and reasoning about systems without requiring every low-level detail.

• Research and understand technical content independently and efficiently, including design documents, specifications, RFCs, and code.

• Show knowledge in computer configurations (OS, containers, encrypted communications and protocols)
