Edge Experience team develops and maintains the Akamai metadata configuration system used by hundreds of internal Akamai users on a 24/7 basis. The team is responsible for developing features of this system, improving the performance, controlling resource usage and helping internal users with building applications using the system. Customer Empowerment Engineering develops and maintains the distributed systems that support Akamai's global network.

Software Engineer is a role that requires technical skills, creativity and a knack for solving problematic issues. You will be involved in the design, implementation, maintenance of a critical configuration distribution system written in Python. That system is essential for Akamai’s content delivery network and is used 24/7 across the world. If you are excited by being the technical go-to engineer, this is the job for you.
As a Software Engineer II, you will be responsible for:
- Creating new features from scratch, enhance existing features and optimize existing functionality
- Working in all stages of software engineering, from concept and design through testing, documenting and deployment
- Contributing to projects that make our network more stable, faster, and more secure
- Cooperating with QA teams to come up with regression tests that cover new changes to our software
Do what you love
To be successful in this role you will:
- Be comfortable and proficient in Python
- Show experience in working with Linux environment
- Have expertise in developing CI/CD pipelines
- Be well versed in developing test automation
- Have good knowledge of common network protocols such as TCP/IP, UDP, DNS, HTTP
- Demonstrate experience working with relational databases (e.g. PostgreSQL)
