About Engineering Management 
At Adverity, Engineering Managers play a major role in developing and nurturing our engineering team and culture. Engineering Managers ensure a consistent delivery of best experiences to our customers, making sure we are investing in the right technology, people, processes and tools while addressing the most pressing topics across strategic areas like delivery, communication, developer experience, agility, staff retention and growth, and organizational scaling, owning the strategy for one of these areas.

You will be supported in doing this by your Engineering Manager peers as part of the Engineering Leadership Team, reporting directly to the VP of Engineering and you will have a big impact on shaping the future of our engineering team.

About your Product scope
You will be operating in the Marketing Reporting vertical product area, focussed on the mission to “accelerate and simplify marketing reporting with flexible dashboards”. You will have full autonomy to lead the area end-to-end, as part of a cross-functional team of Engineering Managers, Product Managers, Engineering Leads and Designers, while focussing on a slice of this domain by supporting 1-2 product development teams on solving customer problems in the most effective and efficient way.

About our Engineers
You will support 6-10 Engineers to become their best selves through line management, individual career planning, coaching & mentoring.

What you'll do:

  • Shape & align: Collaborate with engineers and peers to define and drive strategic initiatives, your product area’s roadmap and short-term goals. Promote industry standards in engineering practices and techniques, including (but not limited to) cloud-based architectures, source control, DevOps, and security. 
  • Deliver value: Continuously improve the way product development teams work in an Agile/Lean environment by directly supporting & coaching their product development leads and/or through facilitation, blockers identification and removal, constantly aiming for increasing speed and quality of the product development process with focus on customer value delivery. 
  • Foster professional growth: Inspire and empower 6-10 engineers through coaching, mentorship and regular actionable feedback so that they maximise both their individual growth and the company success. Run regular 1:1s, help plan individual growth within the context of Adverity’s Engineering Career Ladder. 
  • Support team growth: Participate in hiring, onboarding, offboarding of product development teams members. Help retain top engineering talent to build a diverse, inclusive and high-performing engineering team; help in the effective scaling of the engineering organization, iterating on structure, processes, tools along the way.

What you’ll need:

  • You led, managed, coached and mentored product development teams, product development leads and engineers towards delivering timely, high-quality software.
  • You have direct management experience in a mid-sized engineering team.
  • Solid experience working in an Agile/Lean development environment, a drive to deliver value early and often, constantly delivering and adapting to change and the ability to manage engineering timelines for large software projects.
  • Over-communication comes natural to you. You are a good listener. You know how to advocate, persuade and negotiate with your peers. You enjoy writing things down to synthesise information.

Bonus points:

  • Background as a Backend Software Engineer (ideally using JVM languages) with a track record of delivering well designed solutions. We are looking for someone that could complement our group of Engineering Managers, bringing a diverse perspective and direct experience splitting a monolithic architecture into a microservices one.
  • You are experienced in scaling both systems and teams. You have a growth driven mindset, a deep curiosity to learn new things, quickly adapt to change and constantly improve yourself, the teams you are working with and experience scaling a startup team.
  • Experience leading B2B product-driven engineering teams 
  • You are comfortable with being hands-on in all application layers and keeping a high level overview of the products and systems you help build.
